The Many Challenges of Caregiving
with Paula Stone, Local Playwright
Wednesday, June 12, 3-4:15 pm
Caregiving is one of the most difficult life experiences many of us will ever have. Discuss the challenges of caregiving with local playwright Paula Stone, who wrote Because She’s My Mother, a poignant yet humorous story about an adult daughter’s bittersweet journey to care for her aging mother and herself. Paula will address issues facing both the caregiver and care recipient as well as how we can navigate each of these roles with more wisdom and compassion. You are invited to Watch the video of the play prior to the event. (The video can be viewed online before the end of June.)
In addition to caring for her own mother, Paula has led workshops for adult children caring for their aging parents under the auspices of the Montgomery County, Maryland, Caregiver Support Program. Her plays have won competitions and been featured in play festivals and on radio theatre. Prior to retirement, Paula's professional career included working at the World Bank, Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, and White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She has practiced mindfulness for many years; her education includes a PhD from MIT.
