During this tour, you will explore works of art that offer glimpses of life in 17th century Dutch society during a period of social, economic, and religious change. The tour will include portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes. Through close looking and conversation, we will uncover the layers of meaning in paintings created during an unprecedented flourishing of the arts.
National Gallery of Art Docent: Barbara Schaffer
Barbara is a former teacher. She worked for many years at the American Red Cross in Washington, DC, in the training and leadership development department. Being in the docent program at the National Gallery connects to her love of learning about art, being around art, and sharing that passion with others.
