Art Herstory: The Few, the Proud, the Female

A Getty Museum Presentation via Zoom

Monday, June 17, 1:00-2:00 pm EST
For FHNN & LFV Members & Volunteers

While the Getty isn’t particularly known for its female artists, a deeper look has yielded roughly 25 surprises including painters, sculptors and photographers. Some of the names are familiar such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun and Dorothea Lange, but how about Maria Sybilla Merian or Luisa Roldan? We will take a look at their lives and works in the Getty Collection. The June 17 program will focus on painters and sculptors. A Getty program on female photographers, Art Herstory: Behind the Lens, will be scheduled soon.

This virtual tour is for FHNN and Little Falls Village members and volunteers as part of our collaboration. Register online. FHNN members or volunteers who need help registering can email information.fhnn@gmail.com with Herstory June in the subject line.

Our guide, Lee Rubinstein, holds dual degrees in English and History with a minor in Art History. She has been leading tours at the Getty since 2012. Additionally, she runs a year-long volunteer art program at a public school with disadvantaged pupils.
